Fed: PM preoccupied with Zimbabwe at Pac Forum in Fiji

Prime Minister JOHN HOWARD will be preoccupied with events in a country on the otherside of the world when he meets regional leaders in Suva at the 33rd Pacific Islands Forum.

Mr HOWARD will take advantage of the forum to meet Commonwealth Secretary-General DONMCKINNON and New Zealand Prime Minister HELEN CLARK on the forum sidelines.

They will decide whether to apply sanctions against Zimbabwe.

Zimbabwe President ROBERT MUGABE'S efforts to force white farmers off their land continuesunabated.

The campaign has put pressure on the Commonwealth to live up to its threat of furthersanctions against the African nation.

Zimbabwe was suspended from the Commonwealth earlier this year after a critical Commonwealthobservers report on the conduct of general elections.
